I Believe in Sherlock Holmes...

Happy 159th birthday to my favorite detective, Sherlock Holmes!

I have been a fan of the brilliant man in houndstooth and a deerstalker since I was very first learning to read. My first introduction was through an abridged copy of The Hounds of Baskerville in elementary school and I've been hooked ever since.

My most recent Sherlock-ian obsession is with the BBC tv show, Sherlock. Bendedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are simply fantastic as the quirky detective and his assistant, Dr. John Watson. Like many, many other fans, I am waiting on pins and needles for the BBC to release the next season of the show. It should be out sometime this year (or possibly next, yikes!) and until it finally airs I'm going to be obsessively picking over every detail of the nail-biting finale of the previous season.

We're celebrating the birthday of history's best detective in my favorite way - with a blog hop!

One of my favorite episodes is "A Scandal in Belgravia". It was loosely based on one of the original Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, A Scandal in Bohemia. It involves the tale of Irene Adler, simply known as The Woman. In the television version, The Woman holds secrets on an iPhone and to unlock the phone Holmes must break the above code.

Why musical notes in the tangelo segments? Elementary! Actually, the violin. When depressed or frustrated, Holmes could often be found with his violin in hand. The lovely stringed instrument is almost as integral to the character as his signature houndstooth coat, deerstalker cap, and the unlit pipe wedged firmly between his teeth.

The most famous flat in London - 221 B Baker Street. The apartment Holmes shares with Dr. Watson, rented from the gently interfering and long suffering Mrs. Hudson.

The lunch details: The smallest section of the Easy Lunchbox holds peeled tangelo segments. Rotating clockwise there are cucumber slices topped with a strip of nori and a few Triscuit crackers. The street address is done with pieces of tangelo peel. The biggest section of the bo contains a turkey-cheddar-whole wheat quesadilla (lettering drawn on with edible food marker) and two tiny chocolate chip cookies.
